Panel Meters Uses
About digital panel gauges
Digital panel gauges are digital displays designed to be mounted on a panel, e.g. B. a dashboard were developed. They typically read some type of input, be it voltage, current, or resistance, and display its value digitally. Often this input is a measurement from a sensor that is converted and displayed as temperature, pressure, or some other system variable. These gauges can also act as simple controls that trigger a
switch, or perform a simple function when the reading reaches a preset reading.
Functions
To select a digital panel meter , the industrial meter Buyers should first decide what they want to do.
Basic Gauge Output
The basic function that all digital gauges perform is to take an input signal and convert it to a displayed value. This input comes first from a sensor in the process or system and is sent to the device via the control panel to which the meter is connected. The panel supplies the device with power and inputs for the display.
Additional Outputs
In addition to basic display, some digital gauges have optional interface or control capabilities.
- AnalogFunctionality means that the device can provide an analog output (e.g. a variable voltage or current) proportional to the input signal for use in analog devices.
- Data interfaces functionality allows the user to interact with the displayed information for data analysis.
- Setpoint Functionallows the user to preset input values ??that trigger alarms or simple control functions. Depending on the version, these on/off functions correspond to electromechanical or solid-state relay outputs.
Types
Once a buyer has determined what features are required, the actual meter type must also be considered. Digital panel meters are differentiated by type based on their display and lighting technology.
Display
The display of digital panel meters is numeric or alphanumeric.
- Numeric display means that the meter only displays numbers. Most digital gauges are numeric because the main purpose of gauges is to display numeric values.
- alphanumeric display means that the meter displays both numbers and letters. This is useful to provide the user with more information, e.g. the channel or units that correspond to a reading.
Technology
The lighting used in the digital display is LED or LCD.
- LED (Light Emitting Diode) The screens consist of diodes that illuminate the segments. LED screens are visible in the dark.
- LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) technology shows dark/black digits on a gray or green screen to white. LCD screens use less power than LED screens, but require a backlight to see in the dark.
Signal Input Type
In order to function properly, the device must be designed to accept the analog input sent to it. Input types include:
- AC Voltage - The input is received as a measurable form of AC voltage in volts AC (VAC).
- AC Current - Input is received as a measurable AC current in milliamperes (mA AC) or amperes (A AC).
- AC Current - Input is received as an adjustable range of AC current, voltage ,
and/or frequency.
- DC Voltage - The input is received as a measurable form of DC voltage in Volts DC (VDC) ) .
- Direct current - The input is received as a measurable direct current in milliamperes (mA DC) or amperes (A DC).
- Direct current - The input is received as an adjustable range of DC current, voltage, or frequency.
- Resistance: - The input at which it is received from things that have a change in resistance measure, such as piezoresistive sensors or strain gauges.
- Temperature - The input is from a thermocouple, RTD,
, or thermistor receiving a temperature change. See the Temperature Sensors section for more information.
